Save Time
As a wise wall street fat cat once said, "Time is Money" so then it would follow that Saving Time is another way to save money.
In it's simplest form, saving time doing work by being more efficient allows us more free time to regenerate, get fit, concentrate on others that are important to us and even allow us time to make more money.
Grouping work and chores is one way to become more efficient. Rather than starting and stopping 10 things, starting and completing a manageable task not only gives us a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when the task is done, but by doing several similar tasks in a row, we gain repetitive efficiency and become faster, better and more thorough as we work at it. Just like a professional athlete or musician needed to practise to get better, this repetitiveness and "practising" can be done in many of our daily tasks to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Pay credit card and other bills using online banking instead of spending unnecessary money on stamps and time to mail bills. It is usually free to set this up online with your bank.
Get organized
Try making your list of things to do the night before when they are fresh in your mind. Then you have a map and plan for the next day and you can plan your car trip to cover the most efficient route. Clothing can be planned out to for the next day to start your morning right.
Things like umbrellas, hats, gloves and tuques should be kept near the door.
Education can help save time on repetitive tasks. Sometimes there are shortcuts or easier ways of doing the same repetitive task. As a bigger example, increasing your typing speed will increase your productivity with so much computer based today.
Then there is the old nemesis called "Procrastination". This is the classic problem about thinking about being productive, but not taking any action. Although thoughts do preceed action, if the time gap between thought and action is too great, you may forget all about the thought! After you get enought basic information, you need to get started even in a small way to move forward to the next step. Sometimes deferring a task is fine if you are in the mood to do a different task because tasks go easier when you feel like doing them, so there is a delicate balancing act between deferring or delaying.
By planning some tasks into your calendar for the next day that are achievable, you can move important projects forward.
Time is limited and sometimes we can lose our perception of time. In order to stay motivated, keep a list of both short and long term goals to understand what motivates you to keep you on task.
Of course if you are procrastinating to make the list of goals, then at least take a walk or get some exercise to increase your spirits and get oxygen into your system to boost your energy level and then sit down and just map out 15 minutes to get something done and take it from there. Starting is the hardest part of the action. Divide it up into manageable pieces if the whole task seems overwhelming, and check off piece by piece. As Mary Poppins said, "in every task that's to be done there is an element of fun...." I don't see the fun in cleaning my cat's litter box, but I suppose it would be the benefit of not having a smelly room, I could then breathe deeper and get more oxygen to the brain which in turn will boost productivity....
