Spend Money

This section of the website is one of the funnest, at least in the short term. Nothing like taking some travel time to soak up the sun on a distant island (which will set you back even more than going to Disney World), buy that expensive watch, car, boat, plane, helicopter, aircraft carrier... well it can get out of hand too.

It's OK to spend money

Actually, that is what our economies need is people spending money. It seems that as long as you are earning the money and have some savings for a rainy day, go ahead and enjoy life more here and there.

A wise waitress once said, "be careful what you wish for, for it may just come true.." (she probably heard that from a wise traveller). The point is, that for example it may sound great to take that expensive ski trip - make sure it is not in January at a ski resort that is known for 30 degrees below zero weather, or you will be spending your whole budget on hot chocolate and fixing frostbitten ears. If you are taking the family to Disney World, be mindful of peak season and possibly arrange the trip in a shoulder season where it is less crowded.

Spending money we have gets us what we want and spurns us on to work harder to make more money so we can spend it on other things we want. As long as some savings are part of that equation, quality of life is certainly important and like it or not, money does buy some nice things and allow us to improve our lifestyle and comfort. As long as it is not excessive to our own resources, it is perfectly acceptable and may even motivate us to make more $$$. But being wasteful or overdoing it or even spending compulsively is not a good thing, so as long as we know the difference we can live full, comfortable lives without the feeling we are missing out on something. So go ahead and loosen up that purse or wallet and buy yourself something, take a trip, spend quality time with family and friends once in awhile.
