Yippee!!
It feels like running down the carpet throwing money left and right; like money going down the drain:
A wise European seamstress once said " you have to throw money out the window so it will come back in the door"
We have all heard of "easy come, easy go" as a reason why what came easy can just as easily be lost. How about " a fool and his money are soon parted". Even if it comes easy, it should be considered a blessing and not a reason to blow it all. Why? because it is usually a one time occurence and how many one time occurrences occur where it comes in easy? If your answer is that it is constantly raining money, well then yippee to you and go ahead with supporting our economy as much as possible.
For the rest of us, you can still be somewhat prudent by saving some of the windfall, yes spending some of it, but with a few extra steps you may be able to save some money by shopping around for the item you are considering, by purchasing it with your credit card and racking up the frequent flyer miles or other points (and then of course paying that card off with the money when the bill comes in avoiding any interest costs!).
Even downright haggling or dealing may be necessary, so brush up on those negotiating skills as many merchants are willing to take less than the initial asking price. It never hurts to ask. Perhaps an item is slightly blemished or damaged, maybe the manager will knock of 10 or 15% rather than send it back to the manufacturer.
Although giving generous tips for good service is certainly appreciated by your serving staff (especially if you want good service next time), but giving enormous tips when you are not extremely well off is another way of yippee and not necessary. 15-20% represents a great tip for great service.
Sending a bunch of money to all of those get rich quick schemes that come in the mail are also largely a waste of money. Very few people in the world will just send you alot of money for doing nothing. (if you find such a generous soul, please tell them to friend us up on twitter!).
A wise Italian sculptor once said, "if it's too good to be true, it usually is"
What are some money wasting practises?
*Buying from overpriced vending machines (bring your own snacks and water instead)
*running lights during the day when daylight will do
*running the air conditioner when opening the windows is better (unless it is too hot outside)
*buying brand name goods when there are equivalent generic items (some generic items are actually made by the same manufacturer and are just branded differently)
